The Purge: Election Year Movie Poster

THE PURGE: ELECTION YEAR
MOVIE POSTER
This project is a school assignment, which is to recreate an existing movie poster while retaining the meaning and message behind the movie using Adobe Photoshop.

The movie chosen for this project was The Purge: Election Year.

DESIGN CONCEPT
The idea behind the movie poster revolves around the theme of killings and chaos. Starting from the bottom of the poster, the sand is to signify the dead bodies from the killings during the purging night, which are all buried underground. The top half of the poster shows an explosion scene which represents the chaos that takes place during the purging. It also shows a night time scene as it happens throughout the night. A machine gun is stuck into the sand with a flag attached to it, acting as a flagpole as well as a symbol as a tombstone for the dead bodies buried under. As machine gun was a common weapon of choice by those attackers in the movie, I have decided to choose this as the main element of the poster. Attached to it is an American flag as this movie talks about the election that is happening that year, and the setting of the movie is also in America. Blood splatters and blood stains were added to both the gun and the flag to represent the killings too. The masks used by the attackers are also a prominent element of the movie, hence the neon mask stuck in the sand beside the gun in the poster. The overall colour tone of the poster leans towards the yellow-orange colour due to the explosion in the background.
Thank you.
